iPad

I think we want one. Lisa and I are still discussing whether the extra cost of the 3G would be worth it, since 95% of the time we'd be using it in the house, and if we did bring it along on a trip it'd most likely be to use it as a preloaded reading device.

About the name, I've heard the iTampon jokes (my favorite so far is the one about the iPad with wings), but honestly it seems fine to me. Of the two most obvious alternatives, iSlate sounds too much like "Isolate," and iTablet feels clunky, a break with the naming convention of using "i" plus a single-syllable noun.

I wanted it to be called the iBook touch. Ah well.

When I bite, I'll definitely spend the extra little bit to get the 3G model. I won't bother paying for 3G service most months, but once in a while it'll be nice to be able to activate it while traveling. That's why I'm delighted they set up a no-contract deal for data.

I was wondering about iTab, insomuch as Apple doesn't mind an association with potentially carcinogenic sugar substitutes.

3G or no, it's still locked to AT&T, which is something of a letdown.

I agree, locking products into AT&T means it is absolutely worthless to me other than a cool device to have. A friend that works at the apple store here in Cincinnati said soon, a iphone design will be available for Verizon. When? I dont know... But it will be when 4G hits (i heard) so Im just gonna wait for that I guess.

One time, I thought I would be funny and bought a 12 pack of TAB. Man, there is a reason that stuff dont sell....

I used to work catering. At one wedding, the bride was a TaB aficionado, (supposedly) so someone thought it would be cute if TaB was served. For other reasons (the rumor had it that the couple were recovering alcoholics) it was a dry wedding.

The result? A 200 person wedding where the only drinks served were TaB, hot coffee, and water. The caterer still had to secure and have on hand enough TaB as if all 200 people were to be drinking it.

This was not a happy reception, and the image of the huge stack of pink cans, there at the beginning of the night and still there at the end, is fixed in my mind to this day.

The AT&T/iPhone exclusivity deal expires this year, if I remember right, and I've also heard there's a plan to offer the iPhone through Verizon. So you may not be locked out of using 3G with an Apple device if you don't/won't use AT&T.

And there's certainly plenty of jail-broke iPhones out there...I'd guess it won't be long before someone cracks security on an iPad.

Like I said, i will just wait. i thought about getting one of the 'crakced' iphones but thought that if im gonna be spending all that cash, I might as well have something that can work, legitimately, with the correct plan. I just wanna see all the looks of my friends who have AT&T when this big deal goes through... Because a lot of them migrated to AT&T...
