This frightens me

The in-laws were visiting over the weekend, and yesterday we made our usual pilgrimage to the Muckleshoot Casino in Auburn. Along the way we stopped at Denny's, where I spotted the following item on the menu:

Mini burgers

"Six mini cheeseburgers with mustard and grilled onions surrounding a mound of crisp golden-fried onion rings"

This is not a to-share platter -- it's intended as a meal for a single person. I know that "mini" probably means White Castle-sized, and that it's not unusual for people (including my younger self) to inhale half a dozen of those at a sitting, but still...six cheeseburgers. With deep-fried onion rings. Dude.

Could make for a good LOLcat photo, though.

But really, without seeing it, that's exactly the question: Is it a crapload of food? It depends how "mini" they really are. I mean, certainly six White Castle "sliders" comprise less food than one Lick's burger and much less than the double and triple and quadruple patty burgers you can get at many places.

Every time I go to Denny's (which isn't that often these days, but I do have a soft spot for their peanut butter pie), I try to get someone to order that just so that I can see it in person. I have yet to succeed. If I weren't vegetarian, I'd order it myself, just out of sheer curiosity, but nobody else who I've eaten with shares the fascination.

While the volume of food might not be different, I bet that the ratio of "bad for you" to "very bad for you" doesn't favor that type of dish.

Mostly though, I was thinking about how many leftovers I'd have. You can pretty much trust an American restaurant these days to give you enough (or more than enough) food to stuff you. Stopping eating when I am no longer hungry (not full) has been one of those things I'm learning to do. I'm not at all overweight, but hopefully I can avoid becoming so and keep my insides clean at the same time.
